I agonized over the choices in surge protectors out there. I researched online and always found somebody hating on almost every model I checked out. Made me kind of nervous. I ended up selecting this unit for the following: at 3600 joules, it is rated higher that most at this price point, its got a UL rating of 330 volts (from what I understand this is the best rating possible), and a 0,000 Ultimate Lifetime Insurance coverage for connected equipment. The company Tripp Lite sells a lot of surge protection equipment to hospitals, which also sounds good to me. And I liked the feature set and price as well.There are twelve outlets. Four 'always on' (one of which is designated as 'master') and eight 'slave'. The 'always on' outlets are widely spaced to handle the large transformer plugs. All outlets have covers that easily slide over unused outlets. I've got the TV set up as the 'master' with the Blue Ray and sound hooked up to the 'slave' outlets. When I turn the TV on, the Blue Ray and sound come on automatically. No searching for three remotes just to watch TV. When I turn off the TV, the 'slave' units turn off. This prevents the vampire power usage from these units (TV still consumes standby power). The unit has a switch on the bottom to turn this feature off. All outlets would then function as 'always on'. All outlets also are protected in either mode. The satellite box is hooked up to the 'always on' outlets so that it doesn't need to go through its start up every time I turn on the TV. I have not hooked up the coax or ethernet connections, so, I can not comment on them at this time. Overall, a great value, features work as advertised. All you need if something happens is the serial number. I am goingto register on line anyway because they have a contest. 2) After reading many reviews, some had signal loss with other brands when they connected their coax cable to the surge suppressor. I have not noticed any difference, and when scrolling through the channel guide to view what is on, I see no difference in the speed either. Some reviews said their home theater sound and video was enhanced with this, it even says that on the front of the box. I have not noticed that but it would be great. My 58 inch Samsung is plugged into the " Master " plug, my PS3 is in the green " slave" plug, and my cable box is plugged into " Always On " This way when I turn my TV off, the Tv and PS3 are disconnected from current which is supposed to save a little on electric bill. My cable company said that the cable is grounded at the box, but for the sake of easy replacement, still might be good insurance to have something like this from a reputable company. P.S. The price on these and others seem to change all the time. Make sure you compare Amazon with Dell, and Buy.com on any given day, one of those sites can be .00 cheaper. (I haven't had it long enough yet to determine if it will save on the power bill). I plugged the LCD into the Master plug and as soon a I shut off the TV, the surge protector shuts off all other home theater components except the DVR which is plugged into one of the "always on" outlets. Outlet spacing is nice for transformer plugs. The 10 foot cord is a bit overkill for my particular application but better to have extra than not enough.I have an LCD TV (425 watts) receiver (1300 watts) and two 300 watt speakers with powered subs plus blu ray, Wii console, router, Satellite DVR and an ancient VCR all plugged into this and it handles the strain even when the volume is cranked up. Maybe I'm imagining things but I'd swear the RFI/EMI filter on the surge protector improved the sound clarity of the home theater. I used this to replace a 7 outlet surge protector made by Monster. |
